What "verified" should mean in an AI-assisted newsroom
Automation can assemble material quickly. It cannot confer verification. Here is how we separate the two.
Automation is good at collecting, comparing and organising material. It is not a source of verification.
In this newsroom, a claim is marked as supported when independent permitted sources report it, and as verified only when an editor records the basis for that judgement. Where sources conflict, the conflict is displayed rather than resolved silently.
AI-assisted drafts are labelled internally, reviewed by a human editor, and never published automatically for sensitive subjects: politics, elections, conflict, crime, allegations, health and financial claims.
When we get something wrong, the correction stays on the record.
